"agenda" is always to breed to mediocrity! She is my lifelong friend and has given me many beautiful dogs, but I "NEVER" forget
that she can be extremely devious and hide nasty genes for many generations, even in the loveliest of dogs."
As
a child I always had crossbreds, but we did look after a blue roan cocker for two long weeks that was a badly inbred neurotic
idiot of a dog called Butch. But we called him Butchinal Allawishus Fitzganderpipe, and the name fitted. I thought he had
turned my "OFF" cockers for life! That is until many years later when I was starting to show my German Shepherd "Thea", I
met a lovely couple who also had shepherds and a cocker spaniel called "Lady" that I soon fell inlove with. Lady was
smart, REALLY smart, loved everybody, had nerves of steel and was the greatest character. She was everything a true gundog
should be and when the opportunity arose to buy her, I jumped at it. My lovely Lady "Spandool Silver Wisper CD" became my foundation bitch here at Gunwise, and her many virtues will always be strived for!
The prefix "Gunwise" came from wanting to always breed true gundogs
wisely! Over the years I have become a breed historian wanting to learn as much about my beloved breed as possible. My "hero
and mentor" through his wonderful books, is the late great Mr H.S.Lloyd, the wizard of Ware and the grandmaster of all dog breeders! So I love the oldfashioned true "GUNDOG" type, not the modern "Generic showdog" (Butch) type. There have been many great dogs
bred and kept at Gunwise.
